Job Description:

Purpose of the Position: Managing, administering, directing and controlling the smooth, friendly and efficient operation of our restaurant and bar as well as room service. To assist in directing the staffing of areas consistent with volume of business and needs. To maintain high sanitation standards and ensure compliance with all standards, policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

  • Training all employees in the restaurant how to perform their job duties to the best of their abilities
  • Scheduling, evaluating and directing all personnel.
  • Assists in providing disciplinary action when, and if, necessary.
  • Provide employees with the tools and equipment they need to perform their jobs.
  • Participate in monthly department meetings, food and supplies inventory.
  • Take immediate action on problems that are encountered in the restaurant, bar, comp service and room service.
  • Take on full responsibility for managing shift.
  • Report any shortness of equipment to the Restaurant Manager.
  • Assure prompt, professional service to all guests.
  • Assist in any way needed to the Chef and other managers
  • Advising Chef of daily problems, needs and utilize all available resources to maximize profits, develop quality service and reduce costs.
  • Assist in ensuring all paperwork needed by accounting.
  • Assist in accountability for achieving cost goals in the area of sales, labor and expenses
  • Conduct self to reflect the high standards of professionalism within the organization and hotel
  • Know all emergency procedures
  • Accurately perform cash handling procedures
  • Enforce alcohol awareness policy.
  • Keep open communication between management and employees.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area.
  • Perform your job according to standard operating procedures.
  • Read, understand and follow all policies, procedures and practices as stated in the Employee Handbook.
  • Implement management company and hotel’s safety and emergency policies and procedures (i.e evacuation, first aid, etc) to include removing all safety hazards, following company’s OSHA program, safe lifting techniques.
  • Utilize protective equipment, when applicable.
  • Promptly report substandard ( unsafe ) conditions.
  • Promptly report accidents, injuries, property damage or loss .
  • Keeps accurate communication flowing freely among all hotel departments.
  • Inform management promptly of any work-related problems or guest complaints.
  • Practice 'aggressive hospitality 'and provide guest satisfaction.
  • Promote the hotel through goodwill, courtesy and a positive attitude.
  • Attend all schedule training classes and meetings.
  • Continue to learn and grow in your position.
  • Perform any reasonable request as assigned or directed by management
  • Provide for a safe work environment by following all safety and security procedures and rules.

  • Comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws ordinances as they apply to the hotel, guest and employees
  • Respond properly to irritated or angry guests
  • Know and follow all sanitation procedures
  • Assist other servers when need

Experience and Skills:

Specific Job knowledge, skill and ability

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Thorough knowledge of Food and Beverage outlet operations including foods, beverages, supervisory aspects, service techniques, and guest interaction.

  • Considerable skill in math including determining percentages.

  • Ability to walk, stand, and/or bend continuously to perform essential job functions.

  • Ability to move up to 100 lbs. with wheeled assistance.

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs. and to lift lighter objects overhead.

  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with guests and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information and to resolve problems.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.

  • Complete knowledge of Michigan Liquor Law and able to enforce it as necessary
