Purpose of the Position: Primary function is to paint walls,equipment,building and other structural surfaces, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns. May Mix colors or oils to obtain desired color or rollers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to equipment, buildings, bridges, and/or other structures, using brushes, spray guns, or rollers
  • Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats
  • Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs, based on surface measurements and/or work orders
  • Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting
  • Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives
  • Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil and thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistencies
  • Polish final coats to specified finishes
  • Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors in order to determine work requirements
  • Remove fixtures such as pictures, door knobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting
  • Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, burning, or using water and/or abrasive blasting
  • Smooth surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, and/or sanding machines
  • Wash and treat surfaces with oil, turpentine, mildew remover, or other preparations, and sand rough spots to ensure that finishes will adhere properly
  • Bake finishes on painted and enameled articles, using baking ovens
  • Cut stencils, and brush and spray lettering and decorations on surfaces

 

  • Erect scaffolding and swing gates, or set up ladders, to work above ground level
  • Select and purchase tools and finishes for surfaces to be covered, considering durability, ease of handling, methods of application, and customers' wishes
  • Spray or brush hot plastics or pitch onto surfaces
  • Use special finishing techniques such as sponging, ragging, layering, or faux finishing
  • Waterproof buildings, using waterproofers and caulking

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • None

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Efficiently operate small hand tools such as drill, grinders, saws, etc.
  • Safely climb ladders and stairs
  • Efficiently operate light machinery
  • Efficiently handle test equipment, hand tools, keys, etc.
  • Must have a valid driver license
  • Must be flexible enough to work any shifts including evenings weekends and holidays

 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Trade school preferred
  • Two plus years experience as an Painter in a hotel, resort
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS

    • Able to communicate accurately and effectively in verbal and written form with guests and employees so as to respond accurately and completely to people to give directions, instructions, information, answer questions and provide service as required
    • Read and understand test equipment and measuring devices
    • Read and understand blueprints, schematic drawings and technical parts breakdowns

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    • Able to perform basic mathematical calculations

    REASONING ABILITY

    • Ability to quickly and accurately assess situations that require sound decision making
    • Work under timelines and complete goals that are in the best interest of the guest, hotel and department in a fast paced and quickly changing environment
    • Able to prioritize work and projects keeping in mind how they affect guests, business flow and other resources of the hotel
